Effective field theory for Halo Nuclei

Lucas Platter (University of Tennessee, Knoxville)

Halo nuclei are weakly bound nuclei whose degrees of freedom are a tightly bound core and a small number of valence nucleons. These systems are of experimental interest since they are important in reactions relevant to nuclear astrophysics but also since they frequently occur close to the neutron dripline. I will discuss the application of effective field theory to these weakly bound nuclei and provide a number of examples where this approach leads to new information.
