Scalar couplings of the nucleon: dark matter and lepton flavor violation

In the talk I will discuss two examples of searches for physics beyond the standard model that require a precise knowledge of the scalar couplings of the nucleon: spin-independent dark-matter--nucleon scattering in direct-detection experiments and Higgs-induced lepton flavor violation in mu->e conversion in nuclei.
