Standard, supersymmetric, or no Higgs - Speculations about the electro-weak symmetry-breaking mechanism while waiting for the LHC

G. Isidori

The underlying mechanism responsible for the breaking of the electroweak symmetry is still an open issue. We compare virtues and problems, and discuss recent developments of three reference scenarios which will soon be explored by the LHC: the "standard" Higgs mechanism, the Higgs sector of the minimal Super-symmetric extension of the Standard Model, and the breaking of the electroweak symmetry in models with no elementary Higgs boson.
