Meson gas properties, chiral symmetry restoration, and scalar-pseudoscalar partners

Ángel Gómez Nicola (Madrid)

I will talk about recent progress regarding properties of meson gases relevant for heavy-ion collisions and lattice data.  In particular, I will present our recent analysis of scalar and pseudo-scalar susceptibilities (χS, χP) which allows to understand chiral partner degeneration at chiral symmetry restoration in a consistent framework built from model-independent assumptions.  Thus, within chiral perturbation theory we obtain a direct relation between χP and the quark condensate at finite temperature, which is consistent with lattice data on meson screening masses and with partner correlators matching at the transition.  The same degeneration pattern is extracted directly from lattice data.  The role played by the thermal σ/f0(500) state will also be discussed.  Thus, when saturated by that state, dynamically generated through unitarized ChPT in pion scattering, χS develops a maximum compatible with the lattice transition point, being consistent with partner degeneration and ChPT.
