Three particles in a box: Relating the finite-volume spectrum to three-to-three scattering

Maxwell Hansen (Mainz)

Numerical lattice QCD has made appreciable progress towards determining scattering amplitudes and decay rates involving two-hadron states. This work relies on a method, due to Martin Lüscher, in which two-particle observables are related to finite-volume quantities, energy levels and matrix elements, that are available from the lattice. However, many processes of interest also involve three (or more) hadrons in the in- or out-state, and thus a generalization of the formalism is needed. I present work towards relating the finite-volume energy spectrum to infinite-volume three-to-three scattering quantities, and discuss potential applications.
